    Wake Forest published a study a couple of years ago that shows half of all qualified (met the minimum coursework requirements) applicants are accepted into a U.S. medical school, of those 98% graduate. The much touted low acceptance rate is found by taking the number of applicants to a given school and comparing it to the number of slots in that program. Because the vast majority of med school applicants apply to several programs – the total discreet applicant to total available slot ratio is roughly 2:1.

    I agree with Mike… take George Washington University for instance – they have ~14,000 applicants and accept ~300 people to fill ~188 spots. (Not all of those accepted decide to attend GWU.)
